Lesson-1 [Numbers]

There are ten digits which we use, these are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. These digits called numbers.

A group of digits is called numeral.

Face Value
The face value of a digit is the value of digit. As:
In the numeral 765438 the face value of 6 is 6 and the face value of 3 is 3.

Local Value or Place Value
To calculate the local Value of a digit we multiply the digit with its place value. As:
In numeral 78549:
The local value of 9= 9×1=9
The local value of 4=4×10=40
The local value of 5=5×100=500
The local value of 8=8×1000=8000
The local value of 7=7×10000=70000
